steve olson: what happens when fantasy gives way to reality?
tasya: it never does. tasya: i don’t know, i think there is a lot of dark in the world;
i think a lot of people try really hard to be light.
steve: but you embrace it? you embrace the dark side
tasya: i think you learn more, i mean there is more to be uncovered and more to feel.
steve: really? tasya: I don’t know It’s like, being in love
and having your heart broken. because it’s so easy to be with somebody else and loose
yourself in that person steve: i like your hat, are you a cowboy?
tasya: i am a cowboy, at heart, i really am… part alien, part cowboy, part male, part female.
tasya: i think you become what you wear and your personality kind of aligns with what
you look like from the outside.
steve: is what you wear an expression of who
tasya: yes, absolutely.

jimon: how would you describe tasya van ree?
tasya: it’s difficult to describe yourself. but i have often been described as being a dreamer, a sort of hopeless romantic. i think it’s one of the most important qualities that i own. keeps me searching for unrealistic answers which fuel the heart to createinteresting art. (iz intervjua za jimon magazine)
in her “japanese poet outfit” (a dries van noten embroidered blouse, an opening ceremony swing-belted jacket, and samurai pants), tasya is a self-proclaimed hopeless romantic who is obsessed with symbolism and dreams. she blends horses and women in her drawings because “women have qualities that are similar to horses and vice-versa,” and a line from a pablo neruda poem — “i love you because i know no other way to love” — is tattooed on her arm. tasya says she was raised knowing that when shit happens you have to roll with it. so when our free-spirited heroine had a difficult breakup, she read, took long walks, and realized, “you don’t have to have a romantic connection with somebody to be a part of their life. you can have other connections with that person and then it becomes a stronger bond than it ever was.
