talking to myself, my dear bmb…

i think perfection is ugly. somewhere in the things humans make, i want to see the scars, failure, disorder, distortion. if i can feel those things in the works of others, then I like them. perfection is a kind of order. like overall harmony and so on…they are things someone forces onto a thing. a free human being does not desire such things. and yet, i get the feeling there are a lot of women who do not seek freedom: women who wear symmetrical clothes.” yamamoto, talking to myself,2002

za sada je napisao ove dve knjige: talking to myself i my dear bomb. on. yohji yamamoto.

“for some reason, i am moved by the female form, as seen from the side, or diagonally from behind. like a feeling of waiting to chase after and restrain something that passes by, or passes through. you could call it a feeling of ‘missing’ something.”

“…the back is important to me. i think clothes should be made from the back, and not the front. the back supports the clothes, and so if it is not properly made, the front cannot exist.”

‘here are some thoughts on vision. there is not much to the act of developing a project. the important part of a creative endeavour begins with an act of concentrated seeing, focused looking. creativity will not flow from intellectual manipulations’.

“to be modern is to tear the soul out of every thing”

“it is always best to add something playful to any polished, coordinated look in man’s clothing. attractive, classy, and chic alone result in something dull. the man with a real sense of style will always combine a highly polished look with something less refined, thereby combining the sensibilities of the man about town with those of the country buffoon, mixing the sensitive with the clownish. it simply will not do to have it all be of the highest refinement.”

“the more we possess, the more distant we grow from god.”
